I don't see any threads in here regarding how to get red/purple books in daily quests. Any pointers?

You can get red book as reward from Valkyries' Rage. Otherwise you need to be VIP and refresh daily quest with gold to get higher star quests = better books.

You also get another red book from Chilly Mountain, and a purple book from The Wonderful Adventures of Nils.
