About Mage Build - Orochi~ - Pluton - 10-24-2011
Before you go for purple books and "unbeatable mage build", you should know the following:
Orochi Wrote:the thread starter [of Elemental Build] is very biased, and misleads ppl with the pros of mages, without mentioning the cons.
truth is.. books cost a lot to enhance in comparison to any other gear, and add the least amount of attk. elemental attks cant be dodge or blked, BUT they can fail irregardless of your opponent, and the failure rate is a lot more irritating at times than a simple dodge/blk. most mages have horrible valor/spr stats, so u have to invest a lot more in armor/cloaks, and washes, than the average BM user.
currently with the quest "bug" fixed, the only way u can get enough red/purple books for a pure mage build, would be through gold. if u want to remain competitive for both maps and pvp at later parts.. u'll need even more gold for dual or triple washes. sure, u wont need gold to play a pure mage build, but u'll never be able to compete with the top players, as a pure mage build, without spending gold.
my opinion on pure mage builds...
1.) don't go pure mage if u don't intend to spend a considerable amount of gold, and even if u ARE willing to spend, be aware that u'll have to spend MORE gold to be competitive, as compared to a BM/mixed build.
2.) if u want a pure mage build.. play pois, simply because their m40 mage, heph, is so good that coupled with asclep, the rest of the mages can work as meat shields and u can still blow through most maps. if u're athenian.. dont bother about pure mage builds unless u're doing it for fun, because we have ZERO reliable sniper mages with good stats to rely on.
3.) if u do a pure ele mage build, but plan on converting to a mixed build by adding BM heros later on, isn't it cheaper and faster to do it vice versa, aka playing a pure BM build, THEN adding mages?
don't get me wrong, i'm not saying pure mages build is a bad thing, neither am i trying to stop ppl from doing a pure mage build, but one should be aware of what fully lies ahead before rushing into a pure mage build, or it'll be a costly mistake if u regret halfway.
