DO NOT choose a hero just because of it's high BM damage coefficient!
Multiple/single target, special effect, troop type, base attributes, etc means A LOT!
BM Coefficient is NOT the damage done. Opponent defense can reduce certain amount of damage.

List of all Battle Magic
List of All Batheo Troops

Very High Coefficient is useful in lv 120+ maps.

More about Damage (not the formula)
generally speaking, the damage is calculated as attacking power - defense power, so 15% or 30 % more attacking power doesn't mean only 15% or 30% more damage, it could be much much higher percentage.
e.g. if the base attacking power is 5000 and base defense power is 3000, base damage is 2000, but if attacker got 15% bonus, make his attacking power 5000 * 115% = 5750, then the damage would be 2750, it's 37.5% higher. if 45% more attack, that would be more than double the damage. - aesthete

nice one pluton

Is there any chance you could list some of those troop type/special effect etc THEN correlate them to the BM co-efficients (COEs) to give us a much better picture of the strengths of the heroes and their best application?

At the moment the COEs look great UNTIL you said they are virtually useless due to too many other variables (only lvl 120+ maps). So it would be excellent to see why these COEs are useful, and gives us time to plan and utilise this info for when we do get to higher maps etc.

Thanks

These BM coefficients give a very general idea of the damage done.

At low level, you can use any hero, but I suggest you go for BMs that target multiple enemies to kill faster since you can get higher damage from upgrading the mounts. (Unless you limit your level)
At high level, when your mounts are maxed, if you need to kill fast, you'll need higher damage coefficient.

One good troop type is archer. It is not by accident that Maia, Lotis, Aether, Syrinx, Eurybia... are heroes used by efficient players.

Useful BM, include multiple target for early game, then Sacred Stardust, Crash and Burn, and Morale suppression.
(You choose The Oneiroi not because the damage is any good, but because of its effect)
The rest of the heroes in mid-end game are map recruitables. There are not many hero choices in end game, just playing around with formation, equipments and luck.
