Critical atk and Dodge, Block - Pluton - 02-02-2012

Myth: Critical cannot be dodged, blocked.

Truth: Dodge/Block % is calculated before Critical %.

Hi, just thought i would put this out there regarding "critical attacks being unblockable, undodgeable"

For those who don't know already, this statement is not true. The game system first calculated whether block/dodge occurs, and then, if the respective attack is not blocked/dodged, calculate whether the attack is normal or critical.

To put this into perspective, lets hypothesize two situations
1. Thrud(50% crit rate) vs. Heimdall(75% block rate)
2. Thrud(50% crit rate) vs Bug (0% block rate)

In 1st case, Heimdal would block 75% of the attacks, then in the 25% of the attacks that are successful, 1/2 would be normal attacks and the remaining 1/2 would result in critical. Thus in actuality, Thrud would only have 12.5% of her attacks result in critical hits against Heimdall.

In 2nd case, all of Thrud's attack would be successful, with 50% of all hits being critical.

Same for dodge.

But how come, in SteveForge's Skuld BR, the only lightning arrow hits that got through were crits. Is that just pure coincidence?

Yeah, just coincidence =/

There is only 1 way to parse this. Do about 40 tries on a non-dodging hero to figure out the base crit rate. Say it is 40%. Then try again vs a dodge hero and the base crit rate suddenly drops by a lot after 40 parses. From that you can conclude that dodge must be calculated before crit.

50% crit vs 50% dodge fairly you'd expect to see:

Crit No Crit

dodge ??? dodge

ndodge crit regular damage

That blank spot is where the programmer has to make a decision. For some reason they decided to give dodge an advantage. Stupid imo. It should be regular damage. The idea behing it was a huge hit, but he dodged some of it!
